Prevention and Treatment: Modify Risk Factors

• Hypertension

  • Clear benefit when diastolic BP is very high
  • In mildly elevated BP major benefit is in prevention of stroke
  • Non-pharmacologic approach is benefiaial in mild hypertension

• Diabetes

  • Data not clear
  • Important to control for other risk factors
