Pharmacologic Therapy

• Methyldopa (Aldomet)

  • central presynatic a-2 receptor agonist
  • reduces peripheral resistance
  • still has the best safety record both short-term and long-term
  • mild fluid retention
  • low concentrations in breast milk

• Dose: 250 mg to 1 gm bid
